What Happens at A Hearing Assessment? | Hearing Health Awareness Month

As the team speaks to members of the community throughout Hearing Health Awareness Month, they’ll be inviting more people to take regular assessments.

Similar to an eye examination, these tests measure how well you can hear and let doctors of audiology diagnose possible conditions.

Often, someone can spend years without realizing that they have an underlying issue, leading to a range of physical, social, and emotional problems.

This is what you can expect when you visit Clarity Hearing for the first time.

Initial introductions

When you come to one of Clarity Hearing’s five east Texas locations, you’ll receive a warm welcome from our patient care coordinators, as you would in a physician’s office.

They’ll help you fill out some paperwork before introducing you to your doctor of audiology, who will bring you to their office to begin the assessment.

Initially, your doctor of audiology will want to learn more about you and your reasons for seeking assistance now.

They’ll pay particular attention not just to your symptoms, but also to your medical history.

They’ll also want to find out if your past experiences or line of work could have damaged your hearing.

All this background information will provide crucial clues to a possible condition and will help them in the subsequent phase of their investigation.

The hearing tests

You’ll next take a series of highly accurate hearing tests in one of our dedicated sound booths.

To begin, you’ll put on a pair of headphones and listen to a series of small beeps that decrease in volume and harshness over time.

This first test will determine the overall threshold of your hearing.

Next, you’ll be asked to repeat certain words and phrases in the presence of different background noises.

This will pinpoint how well your brain is processing various types of speech.

Once these exercises have been completed, you’ll return to your doctor of audiology’s office to discuss the results.

What’s the best solution?

The results of your tests will be plotted on a special graph called an audiogram, which your doctor of audiology will use to provide a diagnosis.

Occasionally, patients will benefit from medical attention – especially if they have an ear infection that requires a surgical procedure.

But in most cases, a patient’s best treatment solution is hearing aids.

Your doctor of audiology can let you wear a set of demonstration hearing aids in their office, so you can experience the amazing possibilities this technology can offer.

And if you are ready to pursue this solution, they’ll work hard with you to choose a model and prescription that fits your personal needs, lifestyle, and investment level.

Are you concerned about hearing loss or know someone who is? Contact the team at Clarity Hearing, and they’ll be ready to help you!

Do you know somebody that needs to see this? Why not share it?
